On our adventure trips we need the active participation of our guests. We are limited for space simply because we will have to portage the equipment, participate more actively in the rafting and the trip in general. These trips are more of a learning experience.

2 weeks of wilderness, wildlife, and whitewater. Canoe/kayak with raft support. The Hess has the most consistent whitewater in the Yukon. Class II to IV.
We will fly via small charter plane from Mayo to Porter Lake. There is a one kilometer portage to the head water of the river. We will travel light, with inflatable canoe, small rafts and, or kayaks.
At first the river is small and narrow. It is the perfect habitat for
moose, caribou and a great variety of waterfowl. The river flows South
towards Keele Peak which is the highest point in the Selwyn-Mackenzie
Mountains. Keele Peak is a huge circular, stand-alone massif,
surrounded by valleys with small trees. The massif contains glaciers
radiating out from the peak, and covering an area 10 km by 10 km. We
will navigate 8 kms of grade III+ rapids before reaching Keele Creek
where the river turns west towards Mayo and the Steward River. From
here on the scenery changes to the typical rolling hills of central
Yukon.
The
Hess is the most consistent whitewater trip of the Yukon, we will
encounter rapids everyday, grade III+. This is a true wilderness trip,
a long way from roads and people, the river flows through a rich
wildlife habitat, we are often rewarded by animals sighting. Colorful
canyons, pristine wilderness and whitewater, it is a trip you won't
want to miss.
Traveling on the Hess is more of an adventure. The flight in limits the amount of gear we can carry. We are using small rafts and inflatable canoes to limit the amount of portaging/lining we would have to do in a regular canoe. Guests will need to participate actively in any portaging or lining of the boats as well as paddling. We will use freeze dried food; they will be plenty of food but no fancy meals.
We need a minimum of 4 guests on the trip.
Flight in from Whitehorse or Sheldon Lake
490 kms, 330 kms on the Hess plus 160 kms on the Steward
6 Days | $2,500 per person*
July 27th to August 9th.

A very unique and diverse ecosystem.
The Haines Pass is one of the most beautiful and scenically diverse areas in the Yukon Territory. Enjoy the best of both worlds by settling in at our base camp located on the Blanchard River close to the Haines Summit. Spend your days rafting, hiking or fishing and return in the evenings to our camp where you can relax while surrounded by spectacular mountain views.
Located in the southwest corner of the Yukon, the scenery on Haines Pass consists rolling hills, backed by the majestic peaks of the St. Elias Range. You can see Mt. Hubbard and Kennedy (14,000 ft) located in famous Kluane National Park. The Haines Summit is above tree line, you are surrounded by mountains and glaciers, it is an ideal hiking terrain. Many lakes and streams dot the landscape. The area is home to the largest grizzly population in Canada.
On route to our base camp we will visit Pine Lake, Kluane Visitor Information Center, Klukshu Village and historic Dalton Post. During the course of your trip you will spend one day rafting the upper canyon of the famous Tatshenshini River. This is a fun-filled whitewater paddle. We will spend one day hiking to the Samual Glacier or the Three Guardsmen, seldom visited but overwhelmingly beautiful areas. Another day is spent rafting or canoeing the Kathleen River, a picturesque river which starts in beautiful Rainbow Lake and flows through a small canyon - great moose habitat. Another hike will take place along the shore of the lower Tatshenshini River downstream of Dalton Post. This hike ends at a placer gold mine bordering Kluane National Park.
Evenings can be spent either relaxing at camp or fishing the lakes and rivers of the area. For people wanting a learning experience, we can also offer some basic canoe and/or kayak instruction.
This trip is designed to offer the best of all the Yukon has to offer. Great hikes, whitewater rivers, scenery, fishing and the potential to learn some canoeing and kayaking skills.
